We don’t need many reasons to love Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Whether it is his crazy football skills, his unique sarcasm or I’m-going-to-break-your-jaw stares, he is one of the most recognized, loved, and cheered sportsmen on the planet. But when you’re such a celebrity, how do you use your fame and appeal?
Zlatan taught us all again an important lesson on fame: while your name may be repeated over and over by millions of people worldwide, there are countless individuals whose names are forgotten and never mentioned. These people, in the hundreds of millions, are poor, hungry, homeless, sick and faceless. No one will know their names, no one will ask about them, and no one will ever know they existed.
Zlatan made a point by tattooing 50 names on his body, names of some of those hundreds of millions of people who could use a voice. As a star athlete, your responsibility is not only towards your fan, it’s towards humanity, and bringing attention to things and people that matter is not a luxury but an imperative.
Thank you Zlatan for reminding us all about those we never bothered to ask after!
