Everyone wants to be rich, this is no surprise. Every day people talk about buying cars, villas and dream about yachts and wish they could make seven figures at the end of every year. But while the majority spend their lives dreaming about what making millions might feel like, a minority is working hard to build their paychecks zeros after zeros.
Want to be a millionaire? A Billionaire? How about we take a shortcut and look at others who are already making millions, $77 million to be exact.
Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle, and just up to few days ago, its long-time CEO. Now Larry can write himself a check for $77 million every year because HE CAN, but how did he do it? How can you do it? The good news is, it’s possible. The bad news, you have to work your ass off to get there.
Just as a disclosure before the 1% haters jump on, Larry Ellison wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He contracted pneumonia 9 months after he was born, and was given up to adoption. Granted, he saw his mom 48 years after he was given away.
Tough start. But it doesn’t have to be pneumonia or adoption. We all face difficulties and challenges early on. We blame circumstances, we blame our environment, our parents, our school system, banks… anyone and anything on who we can throw our responsibilities at. But the truth is, it all boils down to how bad you want it.
Ellison’s first attempt at university failed after his second year, not because he was a sloppy student, but because his adoptive mother died at that time. Nevertheless, he still keept on fighting and went on for round two at the University of Chicago where he first started to develop an affinity for design and computer science.
Even after launching Oracle, Larry hit a wall several times, but he was persevering at every turn, tenacious to win and not settling for average. Losing was not an option for him. He fought claws and teeth for success, money and fame. Love it or hate it, he would do anything to be the best, and that’s the attitude we need today. You don’t have to rob banks or cut corners, you just have to put in the effort, and no matter how hard it gets, no matter how difficult it turns out to be, keep your eyes on the prize, the end goal, and just keep grinding.
Writing yourself a $77 million check might not be easy, but it sure as hell is possible and that should be enough to motivate every single one of you to chase down success like there was not tomorrow.
“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”
