The Agence France Press tweeted today at 4:44 pm that the first Ebola case in the US was confirmed by the CDC.
#BREAKING First case of Ebola diagnosed in the US – AFP
The patient diagnosed with Ebola was admitted at the Dallas Hospital where he is being kept in quarantine. While the news is alarming, it is not much of an end-of-the-world scenario since the US is well equipped to contain and fight any outbreak of the ebola virus on American soil.
Ebola has already claimed the lives of 3000 people in West Africa and has the capacity to expand to other continents thanks to intercontinental flights and cruises.
The CDC outlined a list of symptoms that are typical of contracting Ebola:
Symptoms of Ebola include
- Fever (greater than 38.6°C or 101.5°F)
- Severe headache
- Muscle pain
- Abdominal (stomach) pain
- Unexplained hemorrhage (bleeding or bruising)
Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days.
Stay safe everyone!
