Dubai’s premiere photography centre, Gulf Photo Plus (GPP), has announced the dates for its annual photography festival, GPP Photo Week 2017. Now in its 13th year, the festival – the first and longest-running of its kind in the region – will run from February 10 – 17, 2017 and will take place at Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz.
Over the course of eight days, GPP Photo Week 2017 will bring together some of the world’s leading photographers to teach and present on the latest innovations and techniques in the field. With the move to a new venue, next year’s festival will expand its already robust programming to include additional workshops, talks, seminars, photography trails, exhibitions, a special edition of GPP’s SlideFest – a platform for photographers to showcase and talk about their projects in front of an audience -, and more.
Designed to further community interaction and reach, next year’s GPP Photo Week will be hosted at Alserkal Avenue, the hub of arts and creativity in Dubai and the home of the GPP main space. Alserkal Avenue’s newly expanded space will allow for a more in-depth programme as well as an interactive backdrop for attendees. In addition, neighboring galleries and creative spaces will also participate with a variety of photography-related activations in the Avenue throughout the week.
“As one of the staples of GPP’s offering, GPP Photo Week is a unique event that gathers and connects photography enthusiasts and professionals from across the globe for a week that is both inspiring and educational,” said Co-Director of Gulf Photo Plus, Mohamed Somji. “We are very much looking forward to hosting GPP Photo Week 2017 at Alserkal Avenue next year. The new location will not only enable us to expand our programme, but it will give us the opportunity to partner with our neighbours in the Avenue to engage their audiences with photography. This will allow us to further reach our goal of delivering an immersive experience that will challenge people’s perceptions of photography, and that will hopefully inspire them to produce thought-provoking work.”
Vilma Jurkute, Director of Alserkal Avenue, also commented:
“Over the last decade, Gulf Photo Plus has been at the forefront of photography in the UAE and has done an incredible job of educating people on the various elements of the field. GPP Photo Week 2017 continues in that tradition – raising awareness of photography as an artistic practice – and we are delighted to have GPP host the event at the Avenue.”
Every year, GPP Photo Week creates an accessible entry point into the world of photography for people from all backgrounds. The festival provides attendees with a holistic photography experience, giving photographers – professionals, amateurs, and enthusiasts alike – an opportunity to engage with photography as an art form while immersing themselves in Dubai’s burgeoning art scene and forging new connections with fellow photographers from around the world.
